Holly Flynn

Holly Flynn is a Kingston-based impressionist painter, transitioning from a successful corporate career in healthcare technology to fully embrace her artistic calling. This bold shift is reflected in the name of her studio, “Out of Office YGK”, a playful nod to her departure from the corporate world and her deepening commitment to creative exploration.

A proud Kingstonian, Holly draws inspiration from her heritage and the natural beauty of Wolfe Island, where the interplay of light and landscape fuels her artistic vision. Her work is rooted in the impressionist tradition, influenced by the expressive brushwork and colour theory of Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, and Tom Thomson. She is particularly drawn to the Canadian Group of Seven’s reverence for the land and their bold, emotive use of colour.

Holly has refined her technique through mentorship with several Kingston-based professional artists, developing a confident, intuitive style that emphasizes optical colour mixing, dynamic compositions, and a deep emotional connection to place. She believes that the essence of being an artist lies in understanding the rules—then breaking them. This philosophy allows her to explore the boundaries of impressionism with freedom and joy, embracing experimentation as a vital part of her creative process.

Her paintings often capture fleeting moments in nature, rendered with bold strokes and a vibrant palette that evoke both energy and serenity. Holly’s work has been featured in several community art events. In addition to public exhibitions, Holly has completed private commissions and continues to grow her presence in the Kingston arts community. Her evolving body of work reflects a dynamic journey of self-expression, rooted in place, memory, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.

Nadine Baker

Nadine Baker lives in Kingston, Ontario and works from both her home studio and off-grid retreat in Central Frontenac.

Trained professionally as an illustrator and visual artist in Toronto, with a graduate business degree, Nadine’s passion for the arts and community eventually led her to arts management. As a founding Board Member for the Tett Centre of Creativity and Learning, a non-profit arts organization, she played an integral part in its creation and success, becoming Director for its first 7 years. Respected as one of Kingston’s key community arts leaders, she felt privileged to be Chairperson of the City of Kingston’s Arts Advisory Committee during the most challenging years of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nadine’s immersion into the local arts scene has come full circle since retirement. Returning her to roots as a visual artist herself and determined to prove that age has no limits creatively, Nadine now generates dynamic work in a variety of mediums from her home studio. She finds inspiration in the natural world from her experiences locally and from her travels;  applying a touch of dream-like impressionistic qualities to her pieces. She particularly enjoys the challenge of upending the perception and value of acrylic paint and its versatility and underrated richness.

Nadine has produced commissioned work and has participated in several Kingston, Ottawa and Toronto fine art exhibitions and competitions. An avid plein air artist, she has partnered with small businesses in Prince Edward County to integrate business and the arts. In 2025, she hopes to further develop relationships melding different sectors together in Southern Ontario.

“I aim to elicit in others the same wonder that I feel about sigh-worthy vistas and natural forms. The various effects of light and unique perspectives especially fascinate me and drive my curiosity as an artist. My hope is to inspire a deeper appreciation for the beauty of both the everyday and unfamiliar, away from phones and monitors.”

Artist Statement:
Stacey creates abstracted watercolour landscapes and flora art that capture the energy, spirit, and aliveness of nature. Using transparent and granulating paints, she conveys the natural essence of the scenes she paints.

Artist Bio:
Stacey, an artist, biologist, and educator, has spent over 50 years as a seasonal resident on Wolfe Island and lives in the farmland of Wilton, Ontario. At a young age, the island helped shaped her love of nature and how she enjoys her summers, in fields of hay and wildflowers at the foot of the island with it’s beautiful rocky shoreline overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Her art reflects her deep connection to these landscapes, using abstracted watercolours to express her emotions and the essence of the land. She incorporates techniques like patterns, lines, and eco printing, often borrowing from other mediums to enhance her watercolors. A member of several local art associations, her award-winning work has been featured in juried exhibitions, and she regularly sells her art at local juried shows.

Alice Melo

Hello, I’m Alice Melo,
a self-taught realistic artist with a deep passion for capturing the beauty of nature through painting. Creativity is part of my heritage; my grandfather was a potter and my mother a ceramist. Growing up in a creative family inspired me to explore the arts and eventually discover my own path through paint.I began painting 26 years ago as a way to ease anxiety, and from that first brushstroke, I never looked back. Art quickly became my sanctuary, offering calm, focus, and a powerful means of expression. Over the years, I’ve explored a variety of mediums, but I’m most experienced in acrylics. I also enjoy working in watercolour and gouache to create realistic depictions of landscapes, animals, and the quiet moments found in nature.
Based in Kingston, Ontario, I create from my home studio and teach art workshops throughout the Kingston area. Teaching has become one of the most fulfilling parts of my journey, helping others build confidence, develop new skills, and experience the joy that creating art can bring.
Thank you for visiting. I hope my work inspires you to slow down, look closer, and feel more connected to the natural world.
Warmly,
Alice Melo
