ADELE WEBSTER ART

Bio:

Adele is an award winning British/Canadian artist currently based along the shores of Lake Ontario in Kingston. She focuses on gesture and color, layering washes of paint on wood panels to create her work which is inspired by nature’s landscapes. Using a minimalist style she brings balance in an attempt to decipher the everyday chaos towards calm. She intends to create a mood or evoke a dream-like memory that one can escape into while enjoying the playfulness of the contemporary peaceful vista. Her work can be found in galleries across Canada.

Statement:

“My work takes its roots in my graphic arts training and my constant endeavour to break images down to their most basic form. This deliberate simplification serves as an invitation for viewers to appreciate the beauty inherent in the unembellished and to find solace in the understated. I also attempt to capture nature’s perfect landscapes and cloudscapes in a joyous and peaceful way using my love of colour and contemporary abstract painting style. By skillfully weaving together elements that transcend the ordinary, I transport the viewers to a place where time slows down, and the boundaries of reality soften. Each piece is an evocative composition, a visual symphony that resonates with the quietude of a dreamy memory, inviting the viewer to revisit the corners of their own imagination. For me, the act of viewing becomes a meditative experience. Whether it’s the soothing landscapes, the delicate play of light, or the subtle details that capture the essence of a fleeting moment, each artwork holds the promise of a tranquil sanctuary within the viewer’s mind.

I layer washes of very diluted acrylic paint over each other. It’s not until the next day when the layer is dry that I will truly know the colour that will appear, how it has settled into the colour below or the wood grain. I completely embrace this mystery and I truly look forward to walking through my studio door the next day to see what magic has taken place overnight. My main goal is to guide the viewers through a journey of quiet contemplation, where the stresses of the outside world fade away, leaving behind a sense of peace and a collection of dreamy memories that linger like the sweet echoes of a peaceful reverie.”
