ARMELLE LEBLANC

Armelle Leblanc is a contemporary artist from Kingston, Ontario. Born in France, she moved to Canada in 1965.  She lived and worked in Toronto for 40 years before moving to Kingston. Her career was in retail management and merchandising, but she always painted as a side hustle.

She began her art career in watercolour and ink, but eventually moved to acrylic, as it allowed her to experiment in many different techniques and textures. She loves that the acrylic can be watered down to act as a watercolour or applied very thick to make texture and can be layered in interesting ways. Her goal is to create an interplay between what is visible on the surface, and the layers underneath. She achieves different textures using a large pallet knife or texture medium. Paint brushes are rarely used – Armelle prefers to apply the paint with a rag, her hands or a pallet knife, or pressed on with parchment paper and sponges. Collage and image transfers are also used in her mixed media pieces.

Armelle’s work has been sold throughout Canada and the U.S. She is also a member of The Organization of Kingston Women Artists and the Rideau Lakes Artist Association. She is also a member of the VAGA gallery co-op in Ganonoque, Ontario and is represented by the Blu Dog Gallery in Oakville, Ontario.
